After working AH's flight. What a day! |
I think I've talked about my awkward self and my strange luck before. Well, this time, it's little spin on my luck.
*Disclaimer: My hair had been in a half bun, so there is a ridiculous crease in it. The concert was also outside, after a thunderstorm, so my already HUGE hair.......became larger and frizzier than life. I still had a great time*
On the way back to my home base from Amsterdam, I was assigned to work the Business Class (first class international) of the plane. Normally, I avoid this position because I feel like time breezes by in the back in the main cabin, and there's so many more passengers to talk to in the back.
I'm a people person. I absolutely adore my job and I love helping passengers and talking to them. Sometimes, I just get nervous to work up front because I don't want to spill any of the fancy silverware or drinks on a passenger who pretty much just paid over a ton of money to have these awesome seats. Don't get me wrong, passengers in the main cabin would be just as confused if I started flinging glassware and juices at them, but since they have a seat mate, they may laugh it off with me. I'm not sure. Thankfully, lately, people have laughed. Disclaimer: I'm one of the goofiest and sweetest flight attendants.
The van ride with my crew members to the airport from our Amsterdam hotel was a normal one: we engaged in conversation, rambled, and some of us kept our headphones in to listen to soulful songs to get into a peaceful mode to efficiently work an eight hour flight. I belong to that some of us category. Coincidentally, Spotify chose two songs by Anthony Hamilton and Maxwell on the way to the airport. This had to be luck and fate, or something of a cool vibe like that.
Cool fact about this van ride: One of my sweetest friend's dad was on it with us. She worked the next flight out, and her flight was looking a little bit oversold, so she stuck her dad with us, and he loved him!
Moving along. We went through security, found our gate and our aircraft, check in with the sweet KLM gate agents, and boarded our plane to set up for passengers.
Once boarding began, I drifted to the front galley to prepare myself and set up the pre departure beverages of sparkling wine, orange juice, and Heineken (for whoever may want an ice cold beer at 8am local time there, and 2am eastern time in the US). Since I was obviously working so hard and diligently to set up the galley (I'm sure my crew members will laugh loudly when they read that), I missed seeing exactly who was boarding. That's ok, because that good friend who worked the flight with me (mentioned in another blog post) quickly pointed out that one of our favorite artists, Anthony Hamilton, was boarding. I laughed it off and said, "whatever. I know my bad singing during the van ride was annoying, but don't make jokes." .... I quickly learned that this was real life.
This was also real life because I decided not to wear any makeup that morning beyond blush and literally the lightest dab of shimmer ever. My eyebrows had not been brushed, I had not put my contacts in my eyes (yep. rocked the glasses), and I also decided I'd just wear my hair in a bun (this later proved to be a horrible idea as my hair had significant creases in it when I took it down after the flight for a picture).
As luck would have it, AH would be sitting on my side of the aircraft that I would be serving on. Throughout the flight, I'm sure I managed to drop a few things here and there, and maybe even spill some water on him while he slept because I was pouring some for the passenger across the aisle, but none of this proved to be fatal as he later on invited myself and my crew mate to his show that he was in the following night. I knew my friend loved Anthony Hamilton and Maxwell, so he would be so down for the drive to the show.
After the flight, we all took pictures and headed our separate ways.
My good friend and I pretty much only knew that the concert was two hours away and it was the next night. So, we took a fun little two and a half hour drive the next night, arrived to the show finally (but not after facing multiple accidents of other cars on the high way, traffic, and thunderstorms). When we arrived, we went to will call and grabbed our tickets (Thanks for the awesome seats, Anthony!) and headed to sit down.
The show opened with Anthony Hamilton's awesome performance, followed by Fantasia, and finished off with Maxwell! Safe to say we had an amazing night.
Here's a snippet video of Maxwell's performance. I didn't get a ton of videos or pictures during the show, because I was too busy singing along! (the video may take about a minute to load for each internet platform, so give it just a little patience when waiting for it to pop up)
Thanks so much to Anthony Hamilton for the invite to the show, the awesome seats, an even better show, and being so sweet and humble to us after the show at dinner. We truly had a great, great time!
